“Mexico does not kneel before other countries”; Sheinbaum will seek a call with the US

President Claudia Sheinbaum affirmed that the Mexican government does not kneel before those of other countries, as did leaders prior to the Fourth Transformation.
“It is not like before, when governments knelt before foreigners or looked to others as examples to follow. Not anymore. Since the transformation of the government came, it is clear that we claim that Mexico is respected, that we are not a colony or protectorate of any country,” he said from Campo Marte, during the commemoration of Flag Day.
He stressed that he presented an initiative last week, which establishes that the people of Mexico will not, under any circumstances, accept interventions, interferences, or any other act from abroad that is harmful to the integrity, independence, and sovereignty of the nation, such as coups d'état, interference in elections, or the violation of Mexican territory, whether by land, water, or airspace.
He also said that this week he might seek talks with US President Donald Trump to assess progress in the dialogue between the two governments on economic and security issues, and thus avoid the entry into force of tariffs.
We are not a protectorate or a colony, says Sheinbaum; rejects interventionism
The President of the Republic asserts that “we will not kneel before the governments of other countries,” as her predecessors did.
In commemorating Flag Day, President Claudia Sheinbaum affirmed that the Mexican government does not kneel before the governments of other countries, as its predecessors did.
“It is no longer like before, when governments knelt before foreign governments or looked to others as examples to follow. Not now. Since the transformation came to the government, it is clear that we claim that Mexico is respected, that we are not a colony or protectorate of any country,” said Sheinbaum from Campo Marte, in Mexico City.
The head of the Executive recalled that last week she sent a constitutional reform to the Congress of the Union to reiterate that Mexico is an independent country that will not allow its sovereignty to be violated.
“To remind the entire world that Mexico is a free, independent, and sovereign country, and that its people do not allow the violation of its sovereignty. The initiative establishes that the people of Mexico will not, under any circumstances, accept interventions, interferences, or any other act from abroad that is harmful to the integrity, independence, and sovereignty of the nation, such as coups d'état, interference in elections, or the violation of Mexican territory, whether by land, water, or airspace,” reiterated the President.
She reiterated that any foreigner who carries out activities outside of those described by Sheinbaum - contained in Article 40 of the Constitution - will be imposed the most severe penalty possible, as well as the precautionary measure of pretrial detention.
The head of the Executive stressed that the Flag, along with the Coat of Arms and the National Anthem, are the patriotic symbols that summarise the history of the country.
“The Mexican flag is a document of living history. By looking at it, girls and boys, women and men, can learn, remember and re-experience the steps that have brought us to the present. And Mexico has symbols and an extraordinary history. The Mexican flag represents the struggle that men and women have undertaken throughout our history to strengthen ourselves as a nation and always with the hope of achieving justice,” said the head of the Executive.
"Our national flag represents the spirit of our heroic people, the courage and patriotism of our heroes and heroines. It is the most authentic expression of our origins and our identity as an independent and sovereign country," he said.
The solemn ceremony was also attended by the Secretaries of National Defense, Ricardo Trevilla; of the Navy, Raymundo Pedro Morales; of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez Velázquez; of Public Education, Mario Delgado; the President of the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Deputies, Sergio Gutiérrez Luna; the President of the Board of Directors of the Senate, Gerardo Fernández Noroña; and the Head of Government of Mexico City, Clara Brugada.
Admiral celebrates the Flag
Admiral Raymundo Pedro Morales Ángeles, head of the Mexican Navy (Semar), said that the celebration of the National Flag also commemorates those who gave their lives for the greatness of the country.
In a message posted on its official social media account X, the naval command joined in the commemoration of the National Flag, whose official ceremony took place at Campo Marte in Mexico City.
“Today we celebrate Flag Day, a symbol of unity, identity and national pride. As Mexicans, we honor it with respect and commitment, remembering those who have given their lives for the greatness of our country.
“We reaffirm our duty to serve by sea, air and land, guided by the highest values of honor, duty, loyalty and patriotism. May our flag always fly with pride!” wrote Admiral Morales Ángeles in his message.
On the occasion of the celebration of February 24, the Mexican Navy published a video on its YouTube profile about the meaning of the National Flag in the activities carried out by the personnel of the department.
“In the framework of Flag Day, the Mexican Navy reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the nation, inspired by the values of honor, duty, loyalty and patriotism.
“Our national flag represents the greatness of Mexico and the tireless work of its people: from those who protect our coasts and seas, to those who with effort and honesty contribute to the development of the country in every sector,” said a message accompanying the video.
The Secretary of the Navy, he added in his message, is guided by principles to serve the flag with loyalty and protect national sovereignty.
